Cellar Door Games published the original The Legacy of Thieves to rave reviews in 2013, the game often being considered one of the best roguelike platformers ever made. Given the incredible success of the original game, expectations were high for Rogue Legacy 2and if early reviews are any indication, it looks like the sequel not only met fan expectations, but actually exceeded them.
At the time of this writing, Rogue Legacy 2 has an impressive overall rating of 89 on review aggregation site OpenCritic, based on 18 reviews. This is higher than the overall review score for the original The Legacy of Thieveswhich had a commendable overall rating of 84. Critics praise Rogue Legacy 2 as an improvement over its predecessor in almost every category, and it seems that many fans are happy with the game.

As it turns out, Rogue Legacy 2 is an Xbox console exclusive, meaning the only platforms Xbox gamers can check it out on are Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles. With his current score, Rogue Legacy 2 stands as one of the highest rated video game releases of 2022 so far, behind only the resounding success of FromSoftware Ring of Elden and the popular point-and-click adventure game norco. With the game receiving so much praise from critics, it’s understandable that fans of other platforms wonder if they’ll be able to play it on their console of choice. the original The Legacy of Thieves released for many platforms over the years, and so one would think that the PlayStation and Switch ports for Rogue Legacy 2 might be a possibility down the road.
Game Rant spoke with lead designer Teddy Lee about the possibility of Rogue Legacy 2 PlayStation and Switch ports. Lee explained that Rogue Legacy 2 has only two programmers on the team, not having the resources to have someone take care of ports to other platforms. “Even doing the Xbox version was so hard,” Lee said. That doesn’t mean that Rogue Legacy 2 won’t be coming to PlayStation or Switch at some point, but fans shouldn’t expect that to happen anytime soon.
For now, those who want to play Rogue Legacy 2 will have to do it via PC or Xbox consoles.
