The next Xbox console might not be what you expected

It’s hard to believe that the Xbox Series X and S consoles released in 2019 – feels like yesterday, right? Now, three years later, rumor has it that a brand new Microsoft console is in the works and it could be hitting stores much sooner than expected.

An established Xbox leaker has revealed that the gaming giant is creating new Xbox hardware. Apparently, the console will likely act as an upgrade for Xbox Series X/S consoles (like Xbox One S to Xbox One), and we’ll likely see it later this year. If you love how Xbox consoles sound but can’t wait for Microsoft to drop the news, then why not check out our roundup of the best Xbox deals?

Xbox leaker and host of The XboxEra Podcast Nick Baker explains that the console could be released this year; “All I’ve been told that I’m allowed to say is that [it’s coming] later in the year.” However, due to external factors like COVID and the infamous chip shortage, that’s not guaranteed, so don’t get your hopes too high just yet, players.

Baker also said, “Xbox has some material to show right now that falls into a different bucket than people are probably expecting.” We’re not quite sure what that might mean yet, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this is an Xbox VR bundle to try and rival Sony’s PSVR-2. Maybe it’s even working to bring back the Xbox Kinect to please all those nostalgic gamers (although we seriously doubt it).
