The man who assaulted his partner with the Xbox console has been sentenced to prison

A 30-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after assaulting his partner by hitting her with his faulty Xbox earlier this year in Loughbrickland, Northern Ireland.

Michael Yeo was found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm, common assault, criminal damage and intentional possession of an offensive weapon (referring to the Xbox) following the altercation that took place. took place just after midnight on March 9, 2022.

Yeo is said to have been drinking when he argued with his partner. According The outlook for County Down, Yeo had a history of violence. Having become frightened, Yeo’s partner reportedly attempted to leave the kitchen when Yeo punched her in the right ear, causing bruising and swelling.

It is then believed that Yeo ordered his partner to drive him to Belfast, later driving to the couple’s home in Lawrencetown. Yeo was reportedly violent throughout the trip and brought a faulty Xbox console with him.

After arriving in Lawrencetown, Yeo allegedly picked up the faulty Xbox and dropped it on the back of his partner’s head as she raised her hands and curled into a ball. The victim was able to get out of the car where she then texted her father who called the police. She suffered from severe bruising and soft tissue injuries.

Defense attorney Richard Monteith has since confirmed that Yeo had “similar domestic matters on file, which were with his mother”.

District Judge Eamonn King commented on the sentence, saying: ‘This was an unpleasant and prolonged incident involving someone he was in a relationship with and it is compounded by the fact that he has a record for similar behavior in the past and the unfortunate victim of his conduct. on these occasions was his mother. This man needs to take a long, hard look at himself and think about the root cause of his conduct towards women in certain circumstances, to behave the way he does.

Yeo was sentenced to an eight-month prison term, much of it already served by Yeo while in pretrial detention. A two-year restraining order was imposed in favor of the victim and a request to destroy the Xbox was approved.
