Matrix Awakens tech demo appears on PlayStation and Xbox stores

A new tech demo titled “The Matrix Awakens” has appeared on official PlayStation and Xbox digital stores, with the caption calling it “Unreal Engine 5 Experience”.

The new interactive tech demo unfortunately cannot be played at this time, with the description citing December 9 as the release date while confirming that it will be revealed at the Game Awards.

However, you can pre-download The Matrix Awakens for free now, so you can start playing when it launches on Thursday.

“Get ready for a glimpse into the future of interactive storytelling and entertainment with UE5 [Unreal Engine 5] in this free-to-play, real-time tech, cinematic demo that pushes the boundaries, ”the description reads.

Created by members of the original film crew, including Lana Wachowski, along with Epic Games and partners, ‘The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience’ is a wild ride through the upsetting universe of ‘The Matrix ‘which features performances by Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

The tech demo will only be available on the latest generation of consoles and should therefore make the most of the Unreal Engine 5 with updated visuals.

And although this is only a demo, the Xbox Store lists the demo as taking up 29.07 GB of space, so it’s worth making sure there is enough room on your console first.

That’s all we know about The Matrix Awakens so far, with Epic Games holding their cards close to their chest ahead of this week’s The Game Awards event. Keep in mind that this is not a full game, but rather a demo to show what the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles are capable of when pushed to their limits.

Be sure to tune in to The Game Awards to find out more, and if you can’t watch it live, keep an eye on Trusted Reviews instead for all the latest news.
