Xbox Series X/S systems continue to sell out faster than any previous generation of Microsoft consoles, according to the company’s games boss Phil Spencer.

In a New York Times interview published in January, he claimed that Xbox’s ongoing shortages weren’t actually the result of fewer consoles being produced than was the case in previous generations. Instead, the shortage has been caused by an increase in demand since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“When you’re thinking of trying to pick up an Xbox or a new PlayStation right now on the market, they’re really hard to come by,” Spencer said. “And it’s not because the supply is smaller than it has ever been. The supply is actually as big as it has ever been. It’s that the demand exceeds the supply for all of us.

“At this point, we’ve sold more of this generation of Xbox, which are Xbox Series X and S, than we had any previous Xbox versions. So it’s our job to bring the supply there. to respond to this request.
