There are so many fantastic roleplaying locations in Final Fantasy 14 that it can be hard to find the time to visit them all. Believe me, I try. However, A Feast Reborn offers a great way to get a taste (pun highly intended) of many of the best North American data center power RPG locations.
This annual food street festival brings together stalls from different venues and features live music, performances and competitions. Nyte Snow, owner of Abbiocco Fine Dining on Diabolos, is in charge of the event and has ensured this year is even bigger and better than ever.
The program was filled with fun things to see and do, so I made sure to be there from the start of the event so I could check as much as possible. It was so great to see the different themed booths, with staff members wearing matching uniforms and getting into the spirit of things, inviting people to come over, having fun with emotes and just generally watching everyone to have fun together.
There was a stand for everything. Whether you wanted tacos, sushi, pastries, or pizza, there was a stand on hand to whet your appetite. Each booth had a limited menu that featured their location; for example, The Cat’s Meow jazz bar had a stand offering various alcoholic beverages. There were lots of players and vendors playing roles, but even if you didn’t want to participate in that aspect of things, you could still take advantage of the stalls and other shows on offer.
I made sure I watched the first of two cooking shows. I can’t express enough how impressed I was with this setup – everything was so perfect – there were desks for all the students, with the teacher, Endo Hotgo, taking center stage with his assistant Azenami. All the food you needed was provided in-game, but the recipes were for real-world dishes, so you could really learn a thing or two! The recipes are all on the website if you want to try them for yourself.
Endo talked everyone into making the recipes, and while I didn’t participate myself, I enjoyed watching the class from the sidelines. I wasn’t the only one either. More than one friendly stranger came over and shared their food with me as we watched, including an adorable little Lalafell who ate cookies.
It’s one of the things I love the most about these community events, everyone is so friendly and it’s all too easy to get carried away by the festive atmosphere, even alongside strangers. People walked around and exchanged gifts with others to involve them in the festivities, sharing minions and foodstuffs. I met so many friendly first-time players, and even ran into some familiar faces, such as Fruity Snacks from The Eorzean Aquarium and Ahro’zi Zhimsa from Esprit.
Several bands and bards played music throughout the night, such as Final Fantasia, Dark Matter, and Nier-themed band The Broken [W]ings – who played many of my favorite Halloween-themed songs, to name a few. Whichever end of the plot you were at, you could hear bardic music playing in the background and soak up the sounds.
One of the funniest parts of the evening came from everyone suddenly going offline on the NA data centers. It was a scramble to get back, with some players having lingering issues while others (like me) managed to get back up pretty quickly. What made it so hilarious was how everyone in the event took it in stride, and it became part of the highlights of the night, with many calling it the snap of Thanos. I logged back in to see the vendors shouting “Did you survive the kidnapping?” Come get a taco!” and “Did your friends have their picture taken earlier? Come drink alcohol to help cope with the loss! “.
The Macro Dance Esprit troupe had their first big performance on Crystal’s Data Center at A Feast Reborn. As one of the last events, it came after the snap, but luckily most of the cast survived, so the show continued with a few minor tweaks. After snagging a front row seat, I settled in to see what the team had in store.
I know I’ve said this many times, but the attention to detail and craftsmanship that goes into each Esprit issue is impressive. Two personal favorites for me were Robbie Williams’ Candy, where the outfit changes synced perfectly with the song and paint emote, and Lady Gaga’s LoveGame, which saw the dancer use Blue Mage and his cane to perfection as a “Disco Stick”.
If you missed this year’s A Feast Reborn, you can watch the Twitch stream and check the website to see all the vendors who participated. Be sure to join the Discord to stay up to date with plans for next year’s event, which is set to be even bigger by encompassing two days instead of one! Nyte Snow especially wanted to express his thanks to everyone involved in this year’s event, including the Avengers and Tony Stark, for their efforts to turn the tide.
