Disney+ is launching on the Xbox Games Store later this month (and it’s about time)


The launch of Disney+ in South Africa was…successful – but not as successful as it should have been. This can be attributed to the Hotstar app streamer’s sub-par reskin and failure to launch on many high-profile devices. Mickey Mouse wants to change that…soon.

Disney has decided to grace Xbox consoles with its presence, the first console in South Africa to receive the app, later this month.

Wake us up when Disney+ launches on PlayStation

Starting September 29, both legacy and current Xbox consoles will have access to the Disney+ app on the Xbox Games Store. The app can be downloaded on Xbox One, One S or Xbox Series X/S.

PlayStation users are still waiting for Disney to release an app on the PlayStation Store. We are sure one will come ultimately. We’re just not sure when.

This addition makes the brief list of supported software and devices a bit longer. Here is a list of places you can download Disney+ in South Africa :

  • Android TV operating system (OS7.0+)
  • Chromecast (Gen-2)
  • AppleTV (OS11)
  • LG (Web OS 4.0+)

  • Xbox (Xbox One/S, Xbox Series X/S)
