Community Focus – Adrienne Fiore > News

After a nice little two-week break, we’re back with another Community Focus. With so much talk about Mara Sov witnessing Crow’s struggles with her own nightmare in Season of the Haunted, this particular community focus comes at an interesting time. When I first saw this cosplayer’s Mara, my jaw dropped to the ground. From the gorgeous craftsmanship of the costume itself to the incredibly expert makeup that gave her that coveted Awoken look, everything about her Destiny 2 cosplay journey has me sucked in. I hope our community feels the same!

Meet Adrienne Fiore, a US-based cosplayer who almost pains me to be mad at Mara and her crafty manipulations. Love her or hate her, she’s a boss and Adrienne captured the essence of this character perfectly in a way that we’re thrilled to share.

So, without further ado, let’s go.

Adrian, welcome! Super excited to chat with you and show our community some of your awesome projects. Before we start, go ahead and tell us a bit about yourself!

I am Adrian! I’m fine, but I’d be better off playing Destiny right now! [laughs] I’m a single mom with a nine-year-old son (who also loves the game!). I also work full time as a manager at Outback Steakhouse, so sometimes I can’t play as much as I would like. I started playing with the first NES (shh, I’m not old, I swear) and from there I was hooked. Over the years I’ve owned every game console and played thousands of titles, but it wasn’t until Destiny 1 came out that I finally found a game I could play. stick to it. Over the years I’ve made new friends and brought current friends over to play Destiny with me, and honestly it’s been awesome, especially with the amount of games like these that evolve over time .

I agree! Live games are great in many ways, especially for gamers who want to feel connected to a world without that world becoming stale. We connected on a post you made with your Mara Sov cosplay on a wonderful Facebook page called The Ladies of Destiny. Honestly, I was bowled over by the accuracy of your Mara expressions. I have to ask you, when did you start cosplaying and what made you pursue it?

In fact, I first cosplayed as Mara in 2016 at MegaCon! Over the years I’ve had several other characters that I’ve cosplayed, but I’ve always wanted to remake Mara and improve on it to test myself and see how my skills have evolved. Because of that, I slowly tweaked the whole costume over the years. My very first cosplay wasn’t a game though, it was Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones (we’re not talking about season eight). A friend of mine is super crafty, so she helped me get started and because she’s such a good friend, she’s almost always willing to help me with any new project I have in mind. I got into cosplay for a pretty simple reason: I like looking badass! [laughs]

Is there a dream cosplay that you would like to do one day, without limits? People ask me because I don’t even know how to sew to fix a button despite many learning efforts, so this whole process is magic for me!

Honestly, my two dream cosplays would be Sephiroth from Final Fantasy and Mara Sov’s new outfit! Ever since she appeared in Destiny 1 and we had the Queen’s Embassy, I’ve been obsessed with all things Awoken and Mara Sov. In the first Destiny, I even had the full set of queen gear and wore the cape the entire game. No regrets. [laughs]

Hey, the dedication is admirable! Also, you brought up ‘ol Sephi from Final Fantasy. It’s an instant win.

Speaking of victories and Destiny goodness, curious minds want to know: which subclass is your main pressure when you’re in-game? Are you the “my build has to be perfect at all times” type or the “anything goes” type?

I’ve been a main hunter since day one (RIP Cayde), but lately I’ve been really focused on a Stasis build. I know, I know, “stasis hunters, report angry noises”, but it works. For weapons, my favorite loadouts are Gjallarhorn, Suros Regime, Wish Ender, and Telesto. I also have a thing for Halloween extras. I’m still throwing in the Sparrow witch’s broomstick from a few years ago. What can I say, I’m faithful.

I’m still tormented by being surrounded by Hunter networks, the struggle is real. [laughs] Just kidding, I love the class so much you’ve seen it evolve over the years, I think there’s something really special about it.

Because you’re a naturally creative person, I’m dying to know where you’d like to see Destiny 2’s story from here?

I would say that because of my cosplay, but I love Awoken so much that I want more story around them! The Dreaming City is my happy place, so everything about it is amazing!

Even though I really miss Cayde-6 and wish there was a way to bring him back, I love the evolution of Crow and enjoyed learning more about him. Really, I just want to see him experience some happiness. It’s not Uldren, he deserves a fresh start.

I feel like the Dreaming City and your desire to see Cayde return might have so much potential for theories. We’ve seen some community savages about him and the Awoken! I’m pretty guilty of that too, even though I work here. Want to swap game theories on what might be on the horizon?

Not so much a wild theory regarding details, but I think it would be really great to have a mission here or where we can play as NPCs. Like Variks, or maybe even Exo Stranger. It would be nice to see different perspectives of this world, even just for short bursts through a side quest or something.

Dibs on being a Servant so I can just roll around like a big ball all day and do nothing but still wreak havoc. Another question I like to ask, especially to cosplayers, because of how your mind sees the elements and how they translate to the real world: if you could find your dream subclass, what would it be? Anything goes, get weird if you want.

Hmm. I think if I could create a subclass it would be kind of a DIY. A subclass where you can combine things from all the classes (within reason), so I can choose what I like about each and still make it my own. I mean, just imagine having the Blade Barrage and Stasis melee to freeze? ! How cool would that be?

Also, not related, but please give me a Mara Sov action figure to buy.

Subclass Mara Sov, roger that! Due to your relationship with the convention scene, is there anything you would like to say to Destiny 2 and the gaming communities in general?

Have fun. Do what makes you happy! I feel a lot of heartbreak over the smallest of things, like playing Destiny or investing in cosplay, but none of that has ever stopped me. That shouldn’t stop you either! Let people be happy and just be nice. Also, if you want to do Destiny cosplay, or just cosplay in general? Do it! I don’t see it enough and would love to see more cosplayers take on Destiny 2 characters.

You are such a joy to talk to, thank you for taking the time to discuss your love for Mara and your devotion to Hunter. It was honestly awesome! Before you let you go so you can dominate in some Sever action, is there anyone you’d like to thank? Don’t forget to tell people where they can find you to follow your cosplay adventure!

I owe all my raiding and dungeon experience to KobnarCan on Xbox! He always makes room for me whenever I finally have time to play. It means everything to me.

For those interested, you can follow me on Instagram! I also post my non-Destiny cosplay, progress photos and more!

And that’s the end of another Community Focus and another inspiring community member. It’s always a great time when we get the chance to sit down with other players and get inside their heads a bit to see the game world through their eyes. Adrienne was no exception, especially with loyalty to her favorite characters. As a huge Crow fan, I understand those feelings and I know some of you all do too.

You are all inspirations and I hope that even when times are tough, when everything gets a little dark, you will remember that you matter. You are special, you are loved and you are incredibly appreciated. So don’t dim that light, keep shining. We’ll be there to see you conquer the world.

“I should leave,”
